being a boy

WHAT A DIRTY FACE!!

Yesterday Mark ordered 5 tons of gravel to make another parking spot behind our house next to our driveway. Before putting the gravel in the spot, he had to dig a hole, which of course he loved! He loves doing "boy" things and it became quickly apparent that Xander takes after his daddy :) We were in the sun porch at the back of the house playing while Mark was digging and Xander could barely stand not being able to be outside with "da"...he kept pounding on the windows yelling at the top of his lungs for his "da"! Finally, I gave in and let him sit on my lap outside, a little closer to the action. Yeah, that lasted about 5 minutes. Xander just had to be part of the digging. See the problem is, Xander has learned to walk, but refuses to wear shoes! So, I try really hard to not let him walk in places that I consider dirty or dangerous to walk barefoot (the exact definition of a big hole in the backyard!) So, we tried to keep sandals on and that lasted about 5 more minutes. Finally, Mommy caved and let him really "dig" in and get dirty! He was doing this weird crawl through the dirt because it felt so weird, then he began to dig like a puppy dog with his hand! It was hilarious! He was having a blast and then it started to drizzle. One drop of rain landed on his leg and left a perfect clean circle! I decided that we had all had enough fun (and dirt) for one day, so it was off to the bathtub. But in the meantime, I got a few pictures to document the occasion. Also, I recorded a quick video of the end of one of his digging expeditions. I will upload it to the side bar-just click there to see my little "digger"!
